(I thought I had posted this last night, but I guess something went wrong...)
My kids had the day off school, so my mom invited us over to her house for a crafting day. She had gotten some balsa skull "birdhouses" and Halloween ornaments for the girls to paint, and haunted gingerbread houses for them to decorate. I had managed to forget to bring the kiwi, but she had some extra ornaments, and she and I painted some too! Here are the ones I painted:

While the kids decorated the haunted houses (which I didn't really want to be near anyway), I went to the nearby Michael's craft store to look around, which is nearly impossible with the littles in tow. While I was looking in the embroidery section, which to my eyes is getting more and more sparse, I spied some of the "large" handled latch hook tools that I have been looking for for at least a year! I used to have several of those, but I lost one and another broke, and the narrow handled tools just make my arm hurt. They had 5; I tried to not be too greedy and took 4. :) They weren't badly priced AND I got a 20% discount!
When we got home, the kids still had energy to burn so we were off to the local park. I snagged the kiwi, and worked in a few stitches. I am beginning to believe that this is going involved a lot of confetti stitches...

Date: 2018-10-12 03:01 am (UTC)I agree, the embroidery section is so tiny these days. I remember when there was a lot of space devoted to kits and books.
Your skulls turned out really nice!

Date: 2018-10-13 12:40 pm (UTC)Only the small old Michael's near me has any kits and a reasonable selection of related things; the big newer one only has floss and a little bit of fabric and supplies.
I'm looking forward to seeing where your kiwi is going.

Date: 2018-10-15 03:51 am (UTC)Thanks! I think the skills turned out well. At some point this week, we'll get around to the Halloween decorating, and find a nice place to hang these!

Date: 2018-10-15 03:52 am (UTC)I'm looking forward to where the kiwi is going, too. I have some bronze metallic thread that I want to use on it, but I don't know where yet!
