NaCraMaMo: Layerd or Waterfall Journal
Oct. 31st, 2025 06:10 pmI made a layered or waterfall junk journal as a birthday gift. The theme was Sir Matthew Bourne's ballet Edward Scissorhands More about this: https://stonepicnicking-okapi.dreamwidth.org/652811.html

NaCraMaMo Day 31: Coral Fimo Shell
Oct. 31st, 2025 12:45 pm
Final Day of the challenge! I picked up a string of fimo discs, not sure what to do with them, but I rather liked the color (and the price).
Realized when I was looking at this shell pendant that it might go very nicely for a coral sort of look. Added in glass seed bead spacers to make that work and then some glass studded metal balls for a bit more zing, and a reflective water angle.
Days 30 and 31: the home stretch!
Oct. 31st, 2024 11:11 pmDay 30
It was a busy day for me, but I attended my stitch-in, and finished the hat I started on Day 29.

Day 31
Between laundry and various appointments, I didn't get to any crafting until late in the day. But I got a bunch done!
I reattached a ribbon and flower to a hat (not mine); I'd tried before with a couple of types of fabric glue, but it didn't stick (ha ha). So I asked permission to use hot glue, got it, and finally got the ribbon attached

[ID: Two photos of a purple cloche hat, the first with its ribbon and ribbon flower unattached, and the second photo with the ribbon and flower attached to the hat. End ID]
I made another little knitted butterfly.

[ID: A small knitted butterfly, using blue/tan/cream variegated yarn. End ID]
And I knitted 16 rows on a new baby hat before my hand and arm got too tired.

(It was a very quiet Halloween in my neighborhood.)

Day 29
My kid F had an event that I wanted to go watch her in (I've been unable to do a lot of things with the kids most of the spring and summer) which was very tiring, and all the crafting I was able to do was 12 rows of the current baby hat:

[ID: 20 rows of fuzzy-looking knitting in pink yarn on a purple round loom. End ID]
Day 30
I knitted the last 5 rows of the baby hat, and finished it off:

[ID: A finished baby hat in very light pink fuzzy yarn. End ID]
Day 30
I started winding a center pull ball of yarn around mid-day, but it got tangled fairly early on, so I had to find the other end and wind a regular ball, untangling as I went. Then I wound all of the yarn into the center pull ball. I wish that I could figure out what is happening when I wind the skeins for washing to create these tangles.

[ID: Yet another finished center-pull ball of variegated cool pastel colors. End ID]
I'll post a wrap-up tomorrow.

The home stretch: Days 26-31
Nov. 1st, 2022 10:11 pmDay 26
Another Wednesday, and some more work on the SaL cross stitch at the stitch-in

Day 27
I had a doc appointment to look at my knee, and it was an ORDEAL, and once I got home, I simply could not get motivated enough to work on any of my projects. :(
Day 28
More SaL cross stitch

Day 29
Even MORE SaL

Day 30
I altered F's Halloween costume: it was way too long, and showed a bit more of her than she liked, so I spent 3 HOURS doing alterations. I hate that kind of sewing. Shown is the bit I took in at a shoulder; I also had to put in a 4 inch hem on trailing hemline, and it was... frustrating.

Day 31
Does costume makeup count? I say it does! And I did F's Cruella makeup TWICE!

It was a busy day AND Halloween. wheee! But I voted!
Here's a pair of socks-turned-armwarmers for the kids. It was a quick cut, and a zigzag around the edges. A child promptly turned them into part of her "costume."

While we were watching Coco instead of trick-or-treating, I put in a few columns of the CORRECT pink color on the latch hook project.

Day 29, 30 and 31
Oct. 31st, 2020 09:05 pmI'm working on my homework which is due on Thursday. My fake soutache is working out well. My secret is Tombow glue, which is super sticky latex glue. It holds and remains flexible. I built up the design on a felt base and I was limited to things I could find at Michaels since I didn't have time to order proper soutache cord or beads. Of course, Michaels was out of the basic colours like black and gold, so I had to improvise. I'll post a picture of the finished piece when I'm done :-)

Day 28-31: Knitting and Netflix
Nov. 2nd, 2019 08:41 pmThe last week of October was very busy! Knitting was the only thing I could cram in after work. I'm on the fourth ball of Copenhagen yarn for my shawl but it has felt slow going. Somehow I hurt my thumb and it's kind of a necessary component :D I'll share pix when it's done. Hard to believe we're into November!
Days 28-31 To the finish line!
Oct. 31st, 2019 09:44 pmDay 28
I started to attach the gold cloth to the top of K's costume. I had NOTHING but problems: curling, bunching, thread breaking, and the bottom of the shirt disintegrating under the stitching. After a frustrating 90 minutes, I stopped and went on to more pleasant activities, like folding laundry.

Day 29
I assessed the gold trim again; I changed the sewing machine needle (I had been using the wrong kind), and changed the thread, but nothing worked, and my skills were not up to trying to make it work and get finished in 3 days. I admitted defeat, and informed K, who wailed and wailed. I promised her we would work on it again starting in January, and have it ready for our local SF convention in May. (And in the meantime, I'll get my machine serviced, because tension was part of the problem, and find a substitute for the gold fabric that isn't as finicky.)

(I took K to a thrift store after school on Wed, and we were able to find her a suitable beautiful costume.)
Day 30
Since I hadn't put my sewing machine away yet, GB asked me to repair the stitching on the waistband of his pants (no picture).
Day 31
The clutter in my office/craft storage space had become overwhelming, and I needed to get things sorted in there so at least I wasn't tripping and slipping and having things fall on my head.
Before

After

And, after returning home from the sugar mugging, I sat down and worked on my cross stitch until I ran out of thread in the needle.

Days 28-31: countdown to the end...
Oct. 31st, 2018 08:35 pmDay 28: the day of the big twins' birthday party. My lack of RSVPs fortunately was reflected in the attendance; I don't know what I would have done cake wise if 40 more people showed up. As it was, I frosted 3 cakes, which was the extent of my crafting for the day (no pictures).
Day 29: I did find some time to work on the Steotchalong:

Note that the one on the bottom right I started to put in wrong...
Day 30: I needed to get caught up with a bunch of household things that got dumped when I was in so much pain (yes, it's *finally* better!), so the only crafty thing I got done was figuring out how to make the heads of the costumes that my mom made for my kids stand up straighter (and it's still not quite solved, as seen in the pic).

Day 31: After dealing with kids' school things all day, I admitted that I was utterly exhausted, and sent the kids out with their dads for trick-or-treating. I spent that blissfully quiet hour actually finishing week two of the Steotchalong!

Days 28-31
Nov. 1st, 2017 08:02 pmI can't remember which day I did what; I know there was one day that the only thing I did was remove rows from my bracelet. I think the other days I worked on 99, and on one day I also worked on my beading loom.
I did finally finish my bracelet (Stained Glass bracelet by Beadholden Designs); it might still be a little long, but it won't fall off my wrist.

I also restarted my bead loom project (a modified version of Boxed In by Beadholden Designs); I'm enjoying it more and I hope I'm doing better the second time around.

I made some progress on 99 by Ink Circles as well.

There's a list of the beers used at the link above in alphabetical order; here's what they are in row order:

Days 27-31 -- Busy, but not with crafting
Nov. 1st, 2017 12:53 pmMy twins had their birthday party on 29 October, so I spent most of the time leading up to it cleaning and otherwise preparing (I had a big church celebration too), and in the remaining days of October, we were getting ready for Halloween. But here's what I did do.
Day 27
I baked and crumb-coated a cake (but forgot to take a pic) and gathered some herbs from my garden to dry (I suppose that is herb-crafting?).

Day 28
I crossed stitched just a little bit on the bus home from a marriage celebration.

Day 29
Finished frosting the cake (yellow chocolate chip with vanilla frosting and blueberries on top), I baked a pineapple-cherry cobbler, and a pan of brownies.

Days 30-31
Cross stitched a bit more on the Mystery Stitchalong. But alas, I did not finish. I'll keep plugging along.
