Day 26

Another Wednesday, and some more work on the SaL cross stitch at the stitch-in
20221026

Day 27

I had a doc appointment to look at my knee, and it was an ORDEAL, and once I got home, I simply could not get motivated enough to work on any of my projects. :(

Day 28

More SaL cross stitch
20221028

Day 29

Even MORE SaL
20221029

Day 30

I altered F's Halloween costume: it was way too long, and showed a bit more of her than she liked, so I spent 3 HOURS doing alterations. I hate that kind of sewing. Shown is the bit I took in at a shoulder; I also had to put in a 4 inch hem on trailing hemline, and it was... frustrating.

20221030

Day 31

Does costume makeup count? I say it does! And I did F's Cruella makeup TWICE!

Same old story... thankfully, I have an orthopedist appointment on Thursday!

Day 20

It was my kids' birthday! I made them nice birthday cards within my limited drawing capabilities, which they liked, but are a bit personal for me to post.

I made them simple, but decadent cupcakes with double buttercream frosting for their birthday dessert; the pic shows the ones that didn't get frosted but got put in the freezer for later.

20221020

Day 21

After a somewhat tiring previous day preparing a birthday feast, I opted for starting yet another low-spoon headband (but the last of this skein); I knitted about 54 rows.

20221021

Day 22

Day 22 was a bad day painwise; I did manage to finish off the headband I started on day 21, but neglected to take a picture, and now, it's mixed in with all the other headbands.

Day 23

Another not-great day and full of chores to boot. I saved my crafting streak by "finding" (it's been sitting on a chair in my dining room for months) K's dress that needed some mending - some shiny rhinestone cupchain at the neckline had some loose, and I fixed it, and also sewed up a seam elsewhere that had come undone.

Day 24

I worked on the 2019 Mystery SaL, while trying to master the art of listening to audiobooks. After a bit of time, it seems that I can listen to audiobooks while crafting, as long as the work is not too complicated, because anything complicated makes it hard to listen. Now, I just have to remember to stop the book when crafting gets complicated. At least, the app I'm using has a 15 second rewind.

20221024

Day 25

More 2019 Mystery SaL while listening to a few chapters of an audiobook; I think it's getting a little easier.

My knee is still *very* unhappy, and that is impacting my life severely. I'm currently searching out an orthopedist for a second opinion, since the first opinion isn't working out so well. I'm still crafting 'most every day. but how much gets done (or even what, sometimes) is determined by spoons available. Posting is still the hardest part, because I've been really tired at the end of the day, and it definitely is the part of this process that feels like the most work.

Day 17

I finished the headband that I started on Sunday

20221017

Day 18

Tuesday was a really rough day, and all I could find enough spoons to do was two nose wires for face coverings.

20221018

Day 19

I spent time with my stitch-in group and got a bunch more Xs in the same color as Saturday completed!

Day 15

The post-vaccine uselessness largely passed by Saturday (except that my knee is still messed up), and I was able to get dinner in the slow cooker and attend my stitch-in, where I got a whole bunch of Xs in the same color put into the 2019 Mystery SaL

20221015a

After the stitch-in, I sewed the nose and chin sections of a whole lot of face coverings, and then cut the sections off.

20221015b

Day 16

I finished knitting the headband that I started on Monday...

20221016a

I completed 2 face coverings!

20221016b

I started yet another headband while watching a Legends of Tomorrow, just to have something to do with my hands where I didn't have to think too much...

I don't feel like I did an awful lot this past weekend, but my knee still hurts and it's throwing off all my muscles and I was just hurty and exhausted by the end of the day, and thus no posting...

Day 8

I spent a couple of hours with my stitch-in group and got some more done on my mystery SaL from 2019!

20221008

Day 9

I started and FINISHED loom-knitting an entire headband

20221009

[personal profile] ladythmpr
Day 5, I was mostly recovering from being on my bum knee for so much of Day 4.

I put together and ironed the cloth components of K's 3 face coverings (no pic), but the knee didn't feel up to all the sitting up that sewing them would require.

So I sat in my recliner, with a cold pack on my knee, and loom-knitted about 24 more rows on F's ear warmer.

20221005b

Later, I attended my stitch-in, and discovered that I had put in three rows of stitching incorrectly; fortunately it was only about 20 stitches. I frogged those stitches and re-stitched those rows, plus one.

20221005a

Day 6, I spent much of the day driving my mom around to deal with some estate papers. I finally got around to finishing the knitting on F's ear warmer while I was on my weekly friends zoom call. It was late enough that I didn't feel confident in actually finishing it (reattaching the loose ends to the loom is fun enough in bright light), so hopefully, I'll get it finished on Day 7.

I am your worldly-burdened moderator, LadyThmpr (I don't use my real name in social media). I'm a domestic Goddess and SAHM to twin girls almost 11. For crafting, I mostly bead, cross stitch, loom knit, and bake, with occasional forays into latch hook, sewing, ceramic painting, and mixed-media.

I plan to work a bunch on a large mystery stitch-a-long project that I started in 2019, that I'm not quite half done with, continue loom knitting headbands/ear warmers to finish off a skein of yarn, wash a bunch of second-hand yarn, and perhaps tackle that bags of WIPs I unearthed when I finally finished unpacking my craft stuff.

Day 1!

I'm still working on the cross stitch that you saw me working on for last year's challenge; I've gotten quite a bit done (for me) in the 11 months since my last post. The first pic is what I had done up through yesterday, and the second picture is what I did today.

20221001c 20221001djpg

Since last year, I've taken up loom knitting (like I needed another hobby) and right now, I'm knitting headbands (my solution to a "my hair won't do ANYTHING!") and ear warmers. The first picture is what I did yesterday (almost finished, it needed 4 more rows and to be stitched together), and the finishing up that I did today.

Days 23-25

These days are kinda blurry, and I may have worked on the cross stitch one or more of the days.

20211023-25

Day 26

I remember the date on this because I had to take the kids to the park after school, as the packers were still packing, so I had time to do another couple of rows in that rectangle on the right.

20211026

Days 27-31

We moved on the 27th, and I've been unpacking ever since. 4 days of unpacking just the kitchen stuff, and I might have a working kitchen sometime tomorrow.

I did break out the Halloween decorations this afternoon; I put up a few things, and then my kids went to town...

OMG, I move in FIVE DAYS! And my Babies turned 10 this week!

Day 16
I had a dental anesthetic hangover following the day of my dental work and anesthetic fog, so no crafting.

The days are toooooo busy. And, if you've followed my history here at all, I'm doing well if I manage to post every-other day.

Day 4

We had a birthday in the house, so I made a huge birthday dinner, including dessert, which took about three hours, and really precluded doing any other crafting, but dessert is crafting, so here's a picture of birthday pear-blueberrry cobbler.

20211004

Day 5

Back to the cross stitch

20211005

Day 6

I made time for my weekly Wednesday stitch-in, and managed to stitch about 125 stitches in 2 hours!

I'm working mostly a single WIP this year. It's a 2019 Mystery SaL that was supposed to be completed in 8 weeks, I think. That means one was supposed to stitch 150 stitches A DAY. HaHAHAHAHhahaha. Some days, I'm lucky to get in 25, if I manage to stitch at all. Anyway I worked on page 2 most of the summer, and made decent progress. However, I stalled in August when I hit all the leftover confetti and I've only been working on it once or twice a week with my stitch-in group.

Progress through 2021 09 29

20210929

Today, I finished all of the confetti!

On to page 3!

It's been a really sucky week. But I did something crafty every day, even if I didn't create.

Day 26

I worked some more on moving stuff around and putting things away.

Day 27

I worked some more at getting things reorganized and put away, and I even took a picture!

Where I started on Monday:
20201026-before

Where I ended on Tuesday:

20201027-after

I also did some latch hooking (first pic is what I had done previously)

20201027a 20201027b

Day 28

I tackled the first batch of jewelry supplies! This is my last online order, so it's been sitting in that box for MONTHS. (Last summer, I put a moratorium on bringing in any more crafting supplies (with an exception or two) until I could find all the things I already had.) I got about half the box put away into storage boxes.

20201028a 20201028b

I also had a stitch-in, where I got only a little bit of cross stitching on my SaL done, because there was a guest speaker, and she had pretty things to show!

20201028c

Day 29

I finished getting all the beads from the box I started on 10/28 put away into storage boxes!

20201029a

And then, I got all the storage boxes put away onto the shelves!

20201029b 20201029c

Day 30

Day 30 was a day of prodding kids a lot and just feeling entirely unmotivated. Things got a better once we got around to pumpkin carving, so after dinner, I settled in with TrollHunters and my latch hook. Unfortunately, after I had put in about another half-dozen columns, I discovered that I had put in the wrong color of pink, so I spent more than 30 minutes frogging. Frogging latch hook is a lot more difficult than frogging cross stitch!

"Behind on posting" should be my middle name...

Day 20

My little girls turned 9! For their birthday celebration, they helped me make a yellow cake with pink frosting and a strawberry-blueberry cobbler. I forgot to take a picture before the desserts were both half-eaten.

20201020a 20201020b

I also sorted out that bag of estate sale embroidery fiber and got them sorted out by type, including mess...

20201020c

Day 21

I sorted out the mess of tangled fibers on my desk, aided by a pair of sharp pointy scissors. (not shown)

I dusted off my sewing machine from a weeks-long hiatus, and sewed a couple of bags to hold humidity-lowering rice in our new beardie's enclosure and I also sewed some more mask pieces (not shown).

20201021b

I got some work done on my SaL when I finally was able to attend my weekly Stitch-In.

20201021a

Day 22

Crazy day. Towards the end of the day, I redid one kid's headphone covers, because she said that she couldn't hear through the foam. Hopefully, third time is the charm...

Day 17..

The was no Day 17. After a couple nights of little and bad sleep, I couldn't concentrate on anything well enough not to make it worse.

Day 18

I felt better. I got all my polymer clay stuff in one place! (and then I found the clay roller after I took the picture.

20201018a 20201018b

I also got some stitching done on the SaL.

20201018c

Day 19

I tackled some more of the mess on my office desk and floor. Some got put away, some got put in a box to get put away later. I can see the top of my desk again! (no pic, because it got dark by the time I got a round tuit),

Day 14

ladythmpr: (Art)
[personal profile] ladythmpr
My kids were extraordinarily on their school game today ( I tried a different approach today, and it seemed to work), and that meant I had time and energy to work on some more organizing.

Here's where I started today:

20201014a

I got more embroidery stuff sorted --hoops,frames, kits, charts, and WIPs-- and put away.

20201014c

I was hoping that the DMC boxes would be big enough to put all my plastic canvas sheets in, but the drawers are about 3/8" short. I will have to find another solution for those. I found some more floss: loose strands got wound on bobbins and put in the kid box, and the floss that I knew was DMC got entered into the spreadsheet and put away into the floss boxes. and unfortunately, there's a bunch of odd an ends of various things that need to go somewhere, but I'm not sure where yet, which means that they are all over my floor and desk. I've already identified a number of things that will be going out of my house (and maybe some of the O&E will join them).

Where I stopped:

20201014b

Also, the DMC boxes I filled yesterday and today got put up on top of the shelves. (Yay, tall people!)

I had my weekly stitching zoom today, and I actually worked on my SaL cross stitch.

20201014d

Wow, time flies!

Day 8

I cleared out a small box from the office. The contents were from the kid bag that hasn't been used since the kids have been home from school, and I have no idea why that stuff was in my office. All the stuff got put away!

In the afternoon I took a little time away from home (and also on Wed) to take some nature photos, BY MYSELF. I'll link when I have them up. It was really nice to get out alone outside that wasn't a trip to the grocery store.

Day 9

I actually worked on the cross stitch WIP mystery stitch-a-long that was supposed to be done last year.

20201009

Day 10

I worked some more on the above-mentioned WIP. First I discovered that I had just too many loose threads on the back that needed to be clipped, because they kept catching on my working thread. So, I clipped 'em!

20201010a 20201010b

And then, worked some more catch-free stitches!

20201010c

Day 11

My kids have been using headphones where I've recovered the speakers with heavy fleece because the foam had disintegrated, but they still found the headphones too hard. Today, I took the covers apart on one to add some foam (a reuse from a package I received recently). The kid pronounced it cushy, so I did the other side. Sometime later this week, I need to add foam to the pair the other kid is using.

20201011a 20201011b

Also, I made some vegan and gluten-free Peanut Butter Banana Blondies. I had some bananas the HAD to be used, but not enough eggs, and I was tired of the same old banana bread. This turned out different than I expected, but it was good (though the kids say that it's not their favorite, and it's not as good as my banana bread).

20201011c
ladythmpr: (Art)
[personal profile] ladythmpr
Day 28

I started to attach the gold cloth to the top of K's costume. I had NOTHING but problems: curling, bunching, thread breaking, and the bottom of the shirt disintegrating under the stitching. After a frustrating 90 minutes, I stopped and went on to more pleasant activities, like folding laundry.

IMG_20191029_162943

Day 29

I assessed the gold trim again; I changed the sewing machine needle (I had been using the wrong kind), and changed the thread, but nothing worked, and my skills were not up to trying to make it work and get finished in 3 days. I admitted defeat, and informed K, who wailed and wailed. I promised her we would work on it again starting in January, and have it ready for our local SF convention in May. (And in the meantime, I'll get my machine serviced, because tension was part of the problem, and find a substitute for the gold fabric that isn't as finicky.)

IMG_20191029_181446

(I took K to a thrift store after school on Wed, and we were able to find her a suitable beautiful costume.)

Day 30

Since I hadn't put my sewing machine away yet, GB asked me to repair the stitching on the waistband of his pants (no picture).

Day 31

The clutter in my office/craft storage space had become overwhelming, and I needed to get things sorted in there so at least I wasn't tripping and slipping and having things fall on my head.

Before
IMG_20191031_093336 IMG_20191031_093320

After
IMG_20191031_162609 IMG_20191031_162650

And, after returning home from the sugar mugging, I sat down and worked on my cross stitch until I ran out of thread in the needle.
