It was a day yesterday with kid issues and the continuation of a heat wave that isn't supposed to break until Sunday, UGH. It was very late afternoon when I took some of my recently-acquired, secondhand yarn stash outside so I could start winding it into skeins suitable for washing; washing secondhand yarn is important so that you don't introduce pests or allergens into your stash!

I started with a large, pretty, baby-pastel variegated (probably acrylic) yarn that was a mess:

I thought I had untangled the yarn enough to start the washing skein, but after only a few winds, part of the middle pulled out to make an even bigger mess, so I had to start a ball in order to tame the mess. I think I have finally untangled all the mess, but I still have the rest of that yarn to ball and then skein. That all took more than an hour, but I was listening to good music and I find untangling string relaxing.

And to round out the evening, I knitted 7 more rows on the current baby hat:

I cast on and knitted 11 rows on a new premie hat (for charity):

I hadn't expected to do anything else, but I ended up watching a comedy thing with the other parents, and decided to knit while I listened, and knitted the 15 popcorn stitches that I needed for the last head fern of the axolotl toy I am making:

Same old story... thankfully, I have an orthopedist appointment on Thursday!

Day 20

It was my kids' birthday! I made them nice birthday cards within my limited drawing capabilities, which they liked, but are a bit personal for me to post.

I made them simple, but decadent cupcakes with double buttercream frosting for their birthday dessert; the pic shows the ones that didn't get frosted but got put in the freezer for later.

Day 21

After a somewhat tiring previous day preparing a birthday feast, I opted for starting yet another low-spoon headband (but the last of this skein); I knitted about 54 rows.

20221021

Day 22

Day 22 was a bad day painwise; I did manage to finish off the headband I started on day 21, but neglected to take a picture, and now, it's mixed in with all the other headbands.

Day 23

Another not-great day and full of chores to boot. I saved my crafting streak by "finding" (it's been sitting on a chair in my dining room for months) K's dress that needed some mending - some shiny rhinestone cupchain at the neckline had some loose, and I fixed it, and also sewed up a seam elsewhere that had come undone.

Day 24

I worked on the 2019 Mystery SaL, while trying to master the art of listening to audiobooks. After a bit of time, it seems that I can listen to audiobooks while crafting, as long as the work is not too complicated, because anything complicated makes it hard to listen. Now, I just have to remember to stop the book when crafting gets complicated. At least, the app I'm using has a 15 second rewind.

20221024

Day 25

More 2019 Mystery SaL while listening to a few chapters of an audiobook; I think it's getting a little easier.

My knee is still *very* unhappy, and that is impacting my life severely. I'm currently searching out an orthopedist for a second opinion, since the first opinion isn't working out so well. I'm still crafting 'most every day. but how much gets done (or even what, sometimes) is determined by spoons available. Posting is still the hardest part, because I've been really tired at the end of the day, and it definitely is the part of this process that feels like the most work.

Day 17

I finished the headband that I started on Sunday

20221017

Day 18

Tuesday was a really rough day, and all I could find enough spoons to do was two nose wires for face coverings.

20221018

Day 19

I spent time with my stitch-in group and got a bunch more Xs in the same color as Saturday completed!

Day 15

The post-vaccine uselessness largely passed by Saturday (except that my knee is still messed up), and I was able to get dinner in the slow cooker and attend my stitch-in, where I got a whole bunch of Xs in the same color put into the 2019 Mystery SaL

20221015a

After the stitch-in, I sewed the nose and chin sections of a whole lot of face coverings, and then cut the sections off.

20221015b

Day 16

I finished knitting the headband that I started on Monday...

20221016a

I completed 2 face coverings!

20221016b

I started yet another headband while watching a Legends of Tomorrow, just to have something to do with my hands where I didn't have to think too much...

It's been a busy, painful week...

Day 10

The kids had the day off from school, so we went to visit my mom at the ceramic painting place. She had Day of the Dead skull plates for them to paint. I did the easiest painting on a tray ever, which was a marble paint. To do marble painting, you spread some shaving cream on aluminum foil, drop your paint on it, artistically, of course, then run the end of a paintbrush through the paint, horizontally and vertically, and then turn the whole thing over top of the tray. Lift off the foil and wait a few minutes, then rinse off the shaving cream and let dry. It's going to take me at least three times longer to conventionally paint the back. Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures.

While my kids finished their painting, I loom-knitted 50 rows on a headband.

20221010

Day 11

I got the news that F was REALLY short on face coverings, so making more became a priority. I got a a bunch of sets of insides cut, as well as a lot of strips for earloops.

20221011a 20221011b

Day 12

I attended my usual Wednesday stitch-in and got quite a bit done on my 2019 Mystery SaL.

20221012a

After the stitch-in, I cut a whackload of outsides for face coverings.

20221012b

Day 13

Day 13 started out with getting my COVID-19 Bivalent vaccine booster AND my flu vaccine. Afterward, I did my monthly Costco run, and somehow, managed to stress my knee significantly. OW. Once I had lunch and got settled with a cold pack for my knee, I threaded my lot of cut out earloop strips through beads. (Looking at them today, I realise that some of them are too short, and will have to be redone, ooops.)

20221013

Day 14

I spent Day 14 in a dozy haze (pretty typical for me post-COVID vaccine, but at least I didn't have a fever this time!), and in a lot of knee pain (I'm on crutch again) so I didn't craft anything, because it would have come out wrong!

I don't feel like I did an awful lot this past weekend, but my knee still hurts and it's throwing off all my muscles and I was just hurty and exhausted by the end of the day, and thus no posting...

Day 8

I spent a couple of hours with my stitch-in group and got some more done on my mystery SaL from 2019!

20221008

Day 9

I started and FINISHED loom-knitting an entire headband

And I finished F's ear warmer!

Day 5, I was mostly recovering from being on my bum knee for so much of Day 4.

I put together and ironed the cloth components of K's 3 face coverings (no pic), but the knee didn't feel up to all the sitting up that sewing them would require.

So I sat in my recliner, with a cold pack on my knee, and loom-knitted about 24 more rows on F's ear warmer.

20221005b

Later, I attended my stitch-in, and discovered that I had put in three rows of stitching incorrectly; fortunately it was only about 20 stitches. I frogged those stitches and re-stitched those rows, plus one.

20221005a

Day 6, I spent much of the day driving my mom around to deal with some estate papers. I finally got around to finishing the knitting on F's ear warmer while I was on my weekly friends zoom call. It was late enough that I didn't feel confident in actually finishing it (reattaching the loose ends to the loom is fun enough in bright light), so hopefully, I'll get it finished on Day 7.

Day 4

I spent a lot of day 4 shopping and cooking for a birthday dinner! My slow cooker, rice cooker, stovetop, and oven were ALL in play!

I baked a berry cobbler for the birthday dessert, but I forgot to take a picture before it got cut. This is all that was left!

20221004

And I managed 4 more rows on the ear warmer...

Day 2

I'm making an ear warmer for F; I'm about 25 rows in.

20221002

I'm finally getting around to making some face coverings that I started weeks ago; today, I taped up the nose pieces and made 4 pairs of earloops, and I got a face covering sewed!

I am your worldly-burdened moderator, LadyThmpr (I don't use my real name in social media). I'm a domestic Goddess and SAHM to twin girls almost 11. For crafting, I mostly bead, cross stitch, loom knit, and bake, with occasional forays into latch hook, sewing, ceramic painting, and mixed-media.

I plan to work a bunch on a large mystery stitch-a-long project that I started in 2019, that I'm not quite half done with, continue loom knitting headbands/ear warmers to finish off a skein of yarn, wash a bunch of second-hand yarn, and perhaps tackle that bags of WIPs I unearthed when I finally finished unpacking my craft stuff.

Day 1!

I'm still working on the cross stitch that you saw me working on for last year's challenge; I've gotten quite a bit done (for me) in the 11 months since my last post. The first pic is what I had done up through yesterday, and the second picture is what I did today.

20221001c 20221001djpg

Since last year, I've taken up loom knitting (like I needed another hobby) and right now, I'm knitting headbands (my solution to a "my hair won't do ANYTHING!") and ear warmers. The first picture is what I did yesterday (almost finished, it needed 4 more rows and to be stitched together), and the finishing up that I did today.
