This is project 3 from my Tuesday class that I worked on in October. It's a tube dress that doubles as a lap blanket. It needs more structure, like a bodice in the top and heftier straps. I didn't realize how heavy the yarn would be.

I made this dress to memorialize Calgary's 2013 flood. You may have heard of temperature scarves. This is a rainfall gauge! I converted mm of rainfall to inches and inches into rows. If you count down from the top, May and June were the rainiest months. It hugs the body like a river hugs the land. I feel this piece will help me talk about the importance of the Bow River should anyone ask me about the dress.

Specs:
240 rows
Panel 1--130 needles
Panel 2--20 needles
Red Heart So Soft and Loops & Threads yarn.

Here's my finished homework project from my art class. I'm kind of embarrassed how much glue went into this. I wanted to try a technique using soutache cord, but I didn't have time to order the cord. I only had Michaels available to me and they didn't quite have the supplies or stones I wanted. The blue stone is actually an upside down pendant :-D

I also wanted to wire wrap the branch, feet and beak, but that didn't work out either. As my friend says, life is all about Plan B :-D This really feels like a prototype. I would like to try it again and make a wearable pin.

It's been a really sucky week. But I did something crafty every day, even if I didn't create.

Day 26

I worked some more on moving stuff around and putting things away.

Day 27

I worked some more at getting things reorganized and put away, and I even took a picture!

Where I started on Monday:
20201026-before

Where I ended on Tuesday:

20201027-after

I also did some latch hooking (first pic is what I had done previously)

20201027a 20201027b

Day 28

I tackled the first batch of jewelry supplies! This is my last online order, so it's been sitting in that box for MONTHS. (Last summer, I put a moratorium on bringing in any more crafting supplies (with an exception or two) until I could find all the things I already had.) I got about half the box put away into storage boxes.

20201028a 20201028b

I also had a stitch-in, where I got only a little bit of cross stitching on my SaL done, because there was a guest speaker, and she had pretty things to show!

20201028c

Day 29

I finished getting all the beads from the box I started on 10/28 put away into storage boxes!

20201029a

And then, I got all the storage boxes put away onto the shelves!

20201029b 20201029c

Day 30

Day 30 was a day of prodding kids a lot and just feeling entirely unmotivated. Things got a better once we got around to pumpkin carving, so after dinner, I settled in with TrollHunters and my latch hook. Unfortunately, after I had put in about another half-dozen columns, I discovered that I had put in the wrong color of pink, so I spent more than 30 minutes frogging. Frogging latch hook is a lot more difficult than frogging cross stitch!

I'm behind on posting, but I'll try to make up for it. It's just been another biz biz week. Today I sat down with my knitting machine in the evening. Every fibre artist knows the pain of frogging and unravelling and I was so mad at myself for having to undo 130 stitches. I made one row too many. For the sake of striping, I couldn't get it go :D

The trouble with undoing stitches on a knitting machine is that you have to put the previous stitch back on the needle. Things you don't want to do 130 times ;-D

The steel needles are also sharp and somehow I dragged my pinkie across the hooks. Now my knitting machine has a taste for blood! Great!

Ah well...no pain, no gain.

Day 23

I started to weed out and rearrange items on the *other* set of shelves (maybe a picture when I'm all the way done, as it doesn't look all that different from the before picture).

Day 24

I made a Cowboy Cake for the Birthday Girls' Zoom birthday party. And we were a good chunk of the way through that when I realised that I forgot to take a picture.

Day 25

I made my Mom a pair of Halloween earrings. And forgot to take a picture before I put them into the envelope.

At least, I got some decent sleep last night, so I might remember pictures today!

"Behind on posting" should be my middle name...

Day 20

My little girls turned 9! For their birthday celebration, they helped me make a yellow cake with pink frosting and a strawberry-blueberry cobbler. I forgot to take a picture before the desserts were both half-eaten.

20201020a 20201020b

I also sorted out that bag of estate sale embroidery fiber and got them sorted out by type, including mess...

20201020c

Day 21

I sorted out the mess of tangled fibers on my desk, aided by a pair of sharp pointy scissors. (not shown)

I dusted off my sewing machine from a weeks-long hiatus, and sewed a couple of bags to hold humidity-lowering rice in our new beardie's enclosure and I also sewed some more mask pieces (not shown).

20201021b

I got some work done on my SaL when I finally was able to attend my weekly Stitch-In.

20201021a

Day 22

Crazy day. Towards the end of the day, I redid one kid's headphone covers, because she said that she couldn't hear through the foam. Hopefully, third time is the charm...

I have been crafting daily, but I haven't had much of a chance to sit down. Project 2 for my Thursday class involves making some sort of ornamentation. It can be jewelry, ornament on canvas...etc...so I'm looking at soutache. It started snowing here, so I don't know if I'll be going out later to get some large focal beads or cord. I still have plenty of other beads.

Day 17..

The was no Day 17. After a couple nights of little and bad sleep, I couldn't concentrate on anything well enough not to make it worse.

Day 18

I felt better. I got all my polymer clay stuff in one place! (and then I found the clay roller after I took the picture.

20201018a 20201018b

I also got some stitching done on the SaL.

20201018c

Day 19

I tackled some more of the mess on my office desk and floor. Some got put away, some got put in a box to get put away later. I can see the top of my desk again! (no pic, because it got dark by the time I got a round tuit),
ladythmpr: (Art)

Yesterday ended with my office being a mess. so, today was more sorting. I went through my charts/pattern/instructions, decided on categories, and sorted them into an accordion file that was not being used well for, well, filing. I found a bunch of trim and got it all put into zip bags. I did the same with some polymer clay and accessories (though I think I will probably eventually store them in DMC boxes).

It eventually got too hot in the office (we had a heat advisory today) so I took a long break. But, before dinner, I sorted out all the modern DMC floss that was at the bottom of the yarn box, recorded it in the spreadsheet, and put it away!

20201016a

I still have the stuff in the bag to go through; it's a mix of pearl cotton and tapestry yarn and what is probably old-enough-to-be-considered-antique DMC floss. I've done a little research, and the really old thread might not be worth stitching with.

After all that, I repaired the second kid headset.

20201016b

On Day 15, I tackled the box of yarn in the living room

20201015a

and other yarn already in the office. I emptied out one basket to consolidate that batch of rug yarn with my other rug yarn on the bottom shelf. I roughed-sorted a LOT of crafting charts to empty another basket so I could get all my non-tapestry yarn into the big baskets and the jersey "yarn" into the smaller basket.

20201015b

Once I got all that yarn put in the baskets, in the bottom of the box, guess what I found?

20201015c

Yup, more embroidery floss! But that's for another day.

And all that sorting has not improved the state of my office. :(

To end the day, I sorted perler beads while on a zoom chat.

Day 14

My kids were extraordinarily on their school game today ( I tried a different approach today, and it seemed to work), and that meant I had time and energy to work on some more organizing.

Here's where I started today:

20201014a

I got more embroidery stuff sorted --hoops,frames, kits, charts, and WIPs-- and put away.

20201014c

I was hoping that the DMC boxes would be big enough to put all my plastic canvas sheets in, but the drawers are about 3/8" short. I will have to find another solution for those. I found some more floss: loose strands got wound on bobbins and put in the kid box, and the floss that I knew was DMC got entered into the spreadsheet and put away into the floss boxes. and unfortunately, there's a bunch of odd an ends of various things that need to go somewhere, but I'm not sure where yet, which means that they are all over my floor and desk. I've already identified a number of things that will be going out of my house (and maybe some of the O&E will join them).

Where I stopped:

20201014b

Also, the DMC boxes I filled yesterday and today got put up on top of the shelves. (Yay, tall people!)

I had my weekly stitching zoom today, and I actually worked on my SaL cross stitch.

20201014d

Day 12

I wasn't really feeling like doing anything, so I went looking for a latch hook project that I had recently started, because I'm usually able to do latch hook when I'm incapable of doing anything else. I found the yarn, but not the canvas. While I was looking for the canvas, I found a bag of floss (like I knew I would). I got the floss sorted, entered into the spreadsheet, and put away into the appropriate floss box. SO EASY now. Unfortunately, there were a lot of duplicates. Hopefully, the new system will keep me from buying duplicates again.

20201012

Day 13

A busy day with kid school wrangling. In between all the denial, I wiped out a DMC box, found all of my embroidery fabric (mostly Aida), and put it into the box drawers. While I was wiping out the drawers, I found a skein of floss hidden underneath one drawer. It was even one I didn't have!

20201013

Alas, the drawers are not quite long enough for the tubes to fit properly. However, this will do for now.

Wow, time flies!

Day 8

I cleared out a small box from the office. The contents were from the kid bag that hasn't been used since the kids have been home from school, and I have no idea why that stuff was in my office. All the stuff got put away!

In the afternoon I took a little time away from home (and also on Wed) to take some nature photos, BY MYSELF. I'll link when I have them up. It was really nice to get out alone outside that wasn't a trip to the grocery store.

Day 9

I actually worked on the cross stitch WIP mystery stitch-a-long that was supposed to be done last year.

20201009

Day 10

I worked some more on the above-mentioned WIP. First I discovered that I had just too many loose threads on the back that needed to be clipped, because they kept catching on my working thread. So, I clipped 'em!

20201010a 20201010b

And then, worked some more catch-free stitches!

20201010c

Day 11

My kids have been using headphones where I've recovered the speakers with heavy fleece because the foam had disintegrated, but they still found the headphones too hard. Today, I took the covers apart on one to add some foam (a reuse from a package I received recently). The kid pronounced it cushy, so I did the other side. Sometime later this week, I need to add foam to the pair the other kid is using.

20201011a 20201011b

Also, I made some vegan and gluten-free Peanut Butter Banana Blondies. I had some bananas the HAD to be used, but not enough eggs, and I was tired of the same old banana bread. This turned out different than I expected, but it was good (though the kids say that it's not their favorite, and it's not as good as my banana bread).

Day 5:

I found a few more bits and bobs of embroidery threads, noted them in the spreadsheet, and put them in the appropriate floss storage boxes! (no pic)

Day 6:

I found some more floss, noted them in the spreadsheet, and put them in the appropriate floss storage boxes! I also got all the drawers labeled, so I should be able to find floss more easily!

20201006

I can say that I'm about 95% done with this project, and not 100% done, because I KNOW that I will find more floss as I continue to organize and clean the craft storage space.

Day 7:

I cleared off the top of the shelves where the floss storage boxes were going, wiped of the tops of the shelves and got all of the floss storage boxes put up!

20201007a

20201007b

20201007c

I also got about 10 stitches done in one of my cross stitch WIPs, but it wasn't enough that I took a picture. Maybe more today.

And just for posterity, here's all the boxes and baskets (that held stuffed full plastic bags) that the floss was in.

And here's how it all looks now!

I finished bobbining THE MESS and bobbinated the proto-bracelets as well.

20201004a

I also made a berry cobbler for a birthday in our household.

Surprise (to no one), I dealt with more embroidery floss. I found a couple more baggies of fancy metallic floss, which got inventoried and put away. Then, I wond more floss around bobbins during my weekly ST:TNG group viewing.

That whole how to inventory Anchor and J&P Coats embroidery floss made such an impression on my subconscious that it worked on that problem all night, and by the time I woke up, it had made the executive decision that, because I will likely never buy or use either brand of floss on purpose, I shouldn't spend hours trying to determine old or modern or color name and just throw them into the kid box and be done. So, when I woke up, I did just that! :)

Later in the afternoon, I inventoried my Kreinik Metallics and put them in a drawer. Then, I came to THE MESS. I must have bought THE MESS at a garage sale; it's a lot of different colors of floss mixed together, along with some unfinished friendship bracelets. I pulled it all apart mostly intact, and got about half the thread bobbined up while watching TV.

Hello! I can't believe its October either. Time has no meaning in my house any more.

My crafting is random and sporadic, but I need to get better about doing things for myself, so hopefully this will help. With my daughter doing online school this year, time is hard to come by for me.

I enjoy crochet, paper crafts, sewing (though my machine is broken :( ), and anything that catches my fancy.

I have a crochet project that I desperately need to finish. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift LAST YEAR. I'm hoping I can finish it for this year.

Today I made a card for my dad's wedding tomorrow and I hemmed in my dress to wear.

[personal profile] ladythmpr
I guess that's the story of my posting all over...

Day 1:

As I stated in my intro post, much of NaCraMaMo for me will be organizing (or reorganizing?) my craft storage/storage room/office. I started this heraculean tasks couple of weeks ago, because I literally couldn't get into my office without tripping over something, and I've discovered that I can get more done if I start my day sitting in my office chair instead of my recliner. I rough- sorted everything into boxes, which moved out into the foyer and living room. I decided to start with my embroidery threads: getting them out of their bobbin boxes and plastic bags and baskets, inventorying everything into a spreadsheet (because I AM able to do that with the thread, and I'm tired of buying more of the same stuff because I don't know what I have; should I tell you how many skeins of 930 that I have? :), and then putting everything away into the DMC floss boxes I acquired more than a year ago. As of yesterday, I was almost done with the inventorying, with the exception of the random bits of J&P Coats and Anchor threads, some linen thread, and the tin of the new DMC Etoile thread that I got for my birthday a few days ago.

So for my task yesterday, I got through the linen thread, and then the Etoile thread, and got them tucked away in the drawers of the DMC floss boxes. Inventorying the Etoile floss was harder that it should hae been, because, of courst, my inventory sheet lists the thread in number order, but the floss in the tin was in color families order.

Etoile thread in their tin; photo does not do it justice...

20201001a

Thread put away in the drawer; I'd even left room for it, knowing that I'd get it "someday."

20201001b

I then proceeded to fall down a rabbit hole with regards to charts for J&P Coats and Anchor floss colors, and old vs. new, and finally called it for dinner.

And then, during a zoom chat, I sorted a couple more hundred perler beads from a jar of 20000 (I've been working on that all summer).
