Days 27 and 28 - a little bit
Oct. 28th, 2025 10:12 pmDay 27
I had a headache all day with a bit of a scratchy throat; looks like the cold I thought I was over, wasn't. All I got done was 16 rows on a baby hat.

[ID: 16 rows of pastel variegated yarn on a purple knitting loom. End ID]
Day 28
A very low energy day, because yeah, I really wasn't over that cold, ugh. One of the kids needed a jabot for a costume, and instead of talking to me to see what we could fashion with the TONS of supplies we already have (TBF, everyone involved was at least a little under the weather and not thinking well) they bought a POS shirt/jabot combo that cost way too much at S***T H*******N and was non-returnable. I spent far too much time separating the jabot from the shirt, and then pinned everything back together to be sewn up by NOT ME.

[ID: A white jabot, pinned for restitching. End ID]
And a bit later and a bit calmer, I finished the baby hat that I started yesterday.

Day 26 - more knitting
Oct. 26th, 2025 10:07 pmI knitted a baby hat during church-via-video (the household, and especially the usual driver, is still sick, though I appear to be better).

[ID: A knitted baby hat in two colors of variegated yarn. End ID]
When that hat was finished, I didn't have enough of the purpley variegated to use in another hat. The pastel variegated yarn cake had come un-caked (larger cakes sometimes do fall apart) and since I was going to be pulling yarn from both ends for the next hat, I had to re-cake the yarn.

[ID: The first photo is pastel variegated yarn cake that has fallen apart and become a tangled mess; the second photo is a re-formed pastel variegated yarn cake. End ID]
Later in the evening, I knitted another baby hat, using the pastel variegated yarn, because I needed to do something with my hands while binging more Camp Cretaceous.

Days 15, 16, and 17
Oct. 17th, 2025 10:13 pmDay 15
This was a travel day. I had a seat mate on this flight, so I knitted. One hat finished, and about a half of another (not pictured)

[ID: A knitted baby hat, in two colorways of variegated yarn. End ID]
I got home early enough to attend Wednesday stitch-in, so I did, stitching coral thread into the mouse ears on the current cross stitch, where I didn't have to frog anything, because I didn't have to count!

[ID:A cross stitch project in progress, showing the outline of a gray mouse wearing a turquoise scarf; the inside of the ears now have coral stitches. End ID]
And then, I used the last bit of stitch-in to finish the (second) hat that I'd started on the plane.

[ID: A knitted baby hat, in two colorways of variegated yarn. End ID]
Day 16
I was playing chores catchup, while trying to recover from my trip, so I didn't get much done. But I did get many of the facial features on the mouse stitched in, and some detail in the torso area.

[ID: A cross stitch project in progress, showing the outline of a gray mouse wearing a turquoise scarf; some of the facial features are now stitched, in pink and navy blue thread. End ID]
Day 17
This was a VERY busy day, and I was only able to craft a little bit in the evening. I got most of the holly stitched on the current cross stitch piece. I ran out of green thread about 6 stitches short of finishing, and for the life of me I can NOT find the rest of the green thread. So I stopped. The chart has the DMC color number, and I probably have it in my stash, but I was really too tired to go find it.

Days 12 and 13
Oct. 13th, 2025 02:27 pmDay 12
I put in a few rows of gray thread on the cross stitch, to finish the head and start the body of of the creature:

[ID: A cross stitch project in progress, in gray and turquoise thread so far. A head with round ears is complete, with some stitches done on the right side of the body. End ID]
And then we were out and about; I took my knitting bag along. Over the course of the afternoon and evening, I finished another baby hat. (I told you that you would see a lot of baby hats!)

[ID: A knitted baby hat, in two colorways of variegated yarn. End ID]
Day 12
I stitched 2 1/2 needles of gray thread in the cross stitch; there's a tail now!

Althea Valara is checking in!
Oct. 11th, 2025 08:42 amI've been quiet here, mostly because
communal_creators is still going on and I've been lurking/chatting there instead. But I figured I might as well check in here with an update:

[Image Description: A pivot table showing I crafted nearly 12 hours in October so far, just missing one day.]
I touched eight different projects. Some of those are LARGE projects - I'm making a Central Park Hoodie and a Motion Picture Mosaic Cardi. I do not expect to be done with either any time soon, but any progress is GOOD progress.
I play in a crafting game on Ravelry called Nerdopolis, where we get themes to craft to each month. One of the themes this month is "The Games We Played" - craft something inspired by a board game you played as a child. I immediately thought of Mousetrap and thus tried to make an Victorian Mouse but the start was more fiddly than I wanted to deal with at the time, so I gave that up. I considered other patterns inspired by Mousetrap, but eventually decided to make the pair to my In the Weeds Legwarmer that I made earlier this year. My inspiration will be Hungry Hungry Hippos which has a red playing board. I need a legwarmer more than another amigurumi, so this is a good decision on my part.
I don't have any finished items that I care to show off yet. I did freehand a Final Fantasy XIV Ascian Crystal in crochet for a Nerdopolis challenge, but it only came out so-so, alas. But I'm hoping to finish some small-to-medium projects this month.

Day 10 - Another baby hat
Oct. 10th, 2025 03:46 pmI started late again today, as I was out all afternoon; I went to a bead shop among other places, but left buying only two strands of beads that were on sale! Since I was a bit low on energy, knitting is easiest. So, I completed the hat that I started yesterday. The purple came out much more strongly in this hat!

Day 9 - Just a little bit
Oct. 9th, 2025 06:53 pmI didn't get to crafting until late today...
I finished off a needle of gray thread, maybe about 20 stitches, and then the light failed and I called it good.

[ID: A cross stitch project, in progress, with turquoise and gray thread. End ID]
And then I put in 10 rows on a baby hat, because I don't need light for that... and then, dinner was ready.

I knitted another baby hat (you're probably going to see a lot of these). I'm knitting with 2 different skeins of variegated #3 yarn. The hats are coming out a bit more muted than I expected and less stripey; I guess there's a lot less purple in the purple variegated yarn than I thought.

Day 2: Knitting
Oct. 3rd, 2025 05:26 pmMy local knitting guild sells showbags at our regional agricultural show, and they've put out a call for more fingerless mitts to include.
I started a pair the other night but the handspun yarn was too uneven to make a decent item. I started again with new yarn, some mill spun and some hand spun, and they're much nicer.

I picked up a few winter holiday cross stitch kits at my local reuse store recently, so that I might try a little stitching on my upcoming trip. I haven't been able to do cross stitch for a while, but my recent success at needlepoint gives me hope. I had my regular stitch-in today, so I got one kit set up and started, so I didn't have to begin in an airport:

[ID: The beginnings of a cross stitch project, with a small section done in turquoise thread. End ID]
I had to take a short break to pick up a kid from school, and when I got back, I decided to loom knit a little butterfly with some of the tail end of that bright pink variegated yarn:

[ID: A loom-knitted butterfly, made with hot pink yarn, variegated with yellow, blue, and purple. End ID]
It looks a little wonky to me; I suspect tension issues are involved.

Days 30 and 31: the home stretch!
Oct. 31st, 2024 11:11 pmDay 30
It was a busy day for me, but I attended my stitch-in, and finished the hat I started on Day 29.

[ID: A knitted baby hat in blue/tan/cream variegated yarn. End ID]
Day 31
Between laundry and various appointments, I didn't get to any crafting until late in the day. But I got a bunch done!
I reattached a ribbon and flower to a hat (not mine); I'd tried before with a couple of types of fabric glue, but it didn't stick (ha ha). So I asked permission to use hot glue, got it, and finally got the ribbon attached

[ID: Two photos of a purple cloche hat, the first with its ribbon and ribbon flower unattached, and the second photo with the ribbon and flower attached to the hat. End ID]
I made another little knitted butterfly.

[ID: A small knitted butterfly, using blue/tan/cream variegated yarn. End ID]
And I knitted 16 rows on a new baby hat before my hand and arm got too tired.

Day 29: Decorating, and different yarn!
Oct. 29th, 2024 11:27 pmA kid actually wanted to decorate for Halloween, so we dug out the boxes and set some things up outside. Our weather has finally turned fall-like, so I had to wear pants and a sweatshirt!

[ID: Gated home entrance with plants and various kinds of Halloween decor. End ID]
(There were other bits of decorating, but the photo in the dark didn't come out so great.)
After I had a hot chocolate to warm up, I knitted 9 rows on a new baby hat, in a different-colored yarn!

Days 26, 27, and 28: More knitting!
Oct. 28th, 2024 10:40 pmDay 26
It was a long day with my mom in the ER (she's mostly OK, but having new and intense arthritic pain that caused falls), so for something easy, I started a new baby hat that evening and knitted 10 rows.

[ID: A purple knitting loom with 10 rows of knitted pink yarn. End ID]
Day 27
Another longish day (one of my kids got confirmed, so it was hours without my feet up, then an afternoon of chores); I finished the hat I started on Saturday. Thankfully, that was the end of that yarn cake (I was getting tired of the pink), so when I knit the next hat, I'll find another color.

[ID: A pink knitted baby hat. End ID]
Day 28
Today was pretty much a rest day, except for some emergency laundry for the kid who is going to be at a competition for the rest of the week. I wanted to do something OTHER than a hat, so I visited my favorite loom knitting site looking for something quick and easy, and found this pattern. Mine is a little wonky looking, and there's lots I can do different to make it look better (starting with the yarn), but it's not bad for the first one.

Day 24
I was very tired after having done a school tour; I finally got 15 rows on a new baby hat knitted while watching the new season of Jurassic Park: Chaos Theory

[ID: A purple knitting loom with 15 rows of knitted pink yarn. End ID]
Day 25
I spent a decent chunk of time crafting order in my upstairs crafting area by clearing, organizing, finding storage for (and cleaning said storage), moving to other rooms, and rearranging the crafting things around my living room chair, and also sweeping the area THREE times. It had gotten TOO chaotic, and I decided that I didn't really need to have my yarn stash living upstairs. I was able to use a large basket no longer being used as a clothes hamper to hold all of my current crafting projects!

Oct. 23rd, 2024 10:12 pmDuring my stitch-in today, I finished putting together my revamped autumn wreath, and hung it on my front gate!

Days 19, 20, 21, 22: Baked, mostly
Oct. 22nd, 2024 08:06 pmWe're finally nearing the end of the month of birthdays in my house, and this one's a doozy, because there are two birthdays on the same day. My twins opted to celebrate on different days, so it did spread the work out a tiny bit.
Day 19
I baked cupcakes for K, for their birthday dessert.

[ID: A large batch of unfrosted vanilla cupcakes in a deep metal bowl. End ID]
Day 20
I made strawberry frosting, with real strawberries, for K's cupcakes. Here are the frosted cupcakes (I did not apply the frosting. :)

[ID: 13 cupcakes with pink frosting. End ID]
I baked Bread for K's birthday dinner (which was lobster bisque and grilled cheese sandwiches on "soured" dough bread).

[ID: A short loaf of bread. End ID]
Day 21
I baked a strawberry cobbler for F's birthday; I didn't take the cobbler out of the oven, so I only got a pictures of what was left:

[ID: A clear plastic bowl containing a small amount of strawberry cobbler. End ID]
And I also knitted 8 rows on a new baby hat

[ID: A purple knitting loom with 8 rows of pink knitting. End ID]
Day 22
This was a big rest day for me as I spent so many hours on my feet the previous two days. I played a lot of video games, and I knitted 7 rows on the baby hat.

[ID: A purple knitting loom with 15 rows of pink knitting. End ID]
I think I am all caught up now!

Days 13 and 14: Yet more pink
Oct. 14th, 2024 10:09 pmDay 12
I went out for a bit yesterday, and it wore me out more than I thought it would. I got a whole hat knitted while I was out, and started another during our family night, finishing 8 rows.

[ID: A purple knitting loom with 8 rows of pink knitting on it; in the center of the loom is a pink knitted baby hat. End ID]
Day 13
Still tired from yesterday, and I had a bunch of things that needed doing around the house, so I punted my plan for prepping florals and knitted another baby hat instead.
