A kid actually wanted to decorate for Halloween, so we dug out the boxes and set some things up outside. Our weather has finally turned fall-like, so I had to wear pants and a sweatshirt!

(There were other bits of decorating, but the photo in the dark didn't come out so great.)

After I had a hot chocolate to warm up, I knitted 9 rows on a new baby hat, in a different-colored yarn!

Day 26

It was a long day with my mom in the ER (she's mostly OK, but having new and intense arthritic pain that caused falls), so for something easy, I started a new baby hat that evening and knitted 10 rows.

Day 27

Another longish day (one of my kids got confirmed, so it was hours without my feet up, then an afternoon of chores); I finished the hat I started on Saturday. Thankfully, that was the end of that yarn cake (I was getting tired of the pink), so when I knit the next hat, I'll find another color.

Day 28

Today was pretty much a rest day, except for some emergency laundry for the kid who is going to be at a competition for the rest of the week. I wanted to do something OTHER than a hat, so I visited my favorite loom knitting site looking for something quick and easy, and found this pattern. Mine is a little wonky looking, and there's lots I can do different to make it look better (starting with the yarn), but it's not bad for the first one.

But I do know I was putting the finishing touches on them yesterday!

My neighbours and I put on a community Halloween party and I had the great idea of making selfie signs. We did buy some selfie prop masks from the dollar store, but the kids ran off with them, LOL!

I bought Halloween window clings from the dollar store but didn't realize they were window clings, doh! I simply cut around them and glued them onto the white sign. Same for the orange sign. The orange sign lost its witch and the white sign is a little beat up, but they did the job :-) It was so fun, although a lot of work, to put the party on. About 100 people showed up and we had no idea how many or what ages. At least all the treats went :-)

Day 24

I was very tired after having done a school tour; I finally got 15 rows on a new baby hat knitted while watching the new season of Jurassic Park: Chaos Theory

20241024

Day 25

I spent a decent chunk of time crafting order in my upstairs crafting area by clearing, organizing, finding storage for (and cleaning said storage), moving to other rooms, and rearranging the crafting things around my living room chair, and also sweeping the area THREE times. It had gotten TOO chaotic, and I decided that I didn't really need to have my yarn stash living upstairs. I was able to use a large basket no longer being used as a clothes hamper to hold all of my current crafting projects!

During my stitch-in today, I finished putting together my revamped autumn wreath, and hung it on my front gate!

And I also finished the pink baby hat that I've been working on this week.

We're finally nearing the end of the month of birthdays in my house, and this one's a doozy, because there are two birthdays on the same day. My twins opted to celebrate on different days, so it did spread the work out a tiny bit.

Day 19

I baked cupcakes for K, for their birthday dessert.

20241019

Day 20

I made strawberry frosting, with real strawberries, for K's cupcakes. Here are the frosted cupcakes (I did not apply the frosting. :)

I baked Bread for K's birthday dinner (which was lobster bisque and grilled cheese sandwiches on "soured" dough bread).

Day 21

I baked a strawberry cobbler for F's birthday; I didn't take the cobbler out of the oven, so I only got a pictures of what was left:

And I also knitted 8 rows on a new baby hat

Day 22

This was a big rest day for me as I spent so many hours on my feet the previous two days. I played a lot of video games, and I knitted 7 rows on the baby hat.

I think I am all caught up now!

I'll have some photos to share when the projects are done, but our community is having a little outdoor Halloween party and I'm making photo booth frames.

The logistics were challenging because I didn't know where to find enough cardboard. Then I discovered tempura paint (powdered paint in a can) is no longer a thing, LOL.

Some free cardboard showed up via a package, but I ended up going to Michaels and Dollarama to get cardboard trifolds in black and white and cutting them up into four strips.

The one frame I tried to paint orange--well, I wasn't going to wait all day for enough coats of orange to happen :-D Back to Dollarama where I bought some orange poster board and wrapped the sides. I need the frames to be durable enough to last an afternoon of potentially rough handling!

As to decorating them, I bought some giant stickers from Dollarama as well. Now I just have to put it all together today :-D

Day 17

I didn't find time for crafting until we got to our screen break time in the evening, and I was pretty brain and spoon fried. So I pulled out my current latch hook project and put 2+ rows into it:

The first photo shows where I started, and the second shows where I finished. Taken mostly because when I finished last night, it didn't seem like I had done anything, but the photo SHOWS the progress.

[ID: two photos of a latchhook rug canvas partially filled in with dark pink, white, and green yarn; the second photo shows a few more rows done than the first photo. End ID]

Day 18

I had a whole bunch of little things needing repair pile up, and I decided today would be a good day for repairs.

First, some earrings - one earring needed a new earwire, and the second earring (Bajoran style) needed a dangly reattached.

20241018a 20241018b

[ID: Two photos of 3 dangly earrings, in mostly silver and purples; the first before the repair, and the second after the repair. End ID]

Then, I had a stuff-it bag with a rip, and K's apron, where one of the ties had come off. I sewed the rip in the bag, which took THREE tries, because the nylon fabric is cheap, and then sewed the apron tie back on. I also caught another apron tie that was coming loose, and sewed that as well.

[ID: Two photos of bright red and multicolored fabric items; the first before the repair, and the second after the repair. End ID]

During our family screen break time, after I had done a bunch of chores, I finished wrapping the last four faux grape stems with floral tape:

I might get the stems put in at stitch-in tomorrow.

(and I just dated myself with those lyrics...)

We're halfway through October and NaCraMaMo. How is everyone doing?

Personally, I feel both accomplished and slacking. Which is BS, I know. I know that I am pushing a little harder than I should, and I need the days when I "just" put a few rows into a baby hat. I also know that if I do no crafting for days on end, I feel worse than if I can get in even just a few knitted rows. Those few knitted rows eventually become a hat. A tiny little hat that has me smiling.

Today at my regular stitch-in, instead of stitching, I started putting together the wreath! Here's how it looks so far:

20241016a
[ID: A wreath formed by small rusty water cans, with yellow, orange, red and purple faux floral elements attached. End ID]

Oh, and of course I didn't get a photo in the right orientation (and I'm too done to take another), so picture the wreath about an eighth of a turn to the right.

Consensus was it needed a little something to fill it out (I agreed), so I started wrapping some grape-leaf stems in floral tape; I got two done before the end of the stitch-in.

20241016b
[ID: two faux grape leaf clusters, one green and the other rust colored; their stems wrapped in brown floral tape. End ID]

My hands hurt enough though, that I'll switch to something different tomorrow.

After a bunch of housework and in-between resting, I finally chose more floral stems, clipped them appropriately, and wrapped them in floral tape.

20241015
[ID: 4 floral stems that have small orange, red, and purple flowers, and green leaves; the stems have been wrapped in brown floral tape. End ID]

The next step for the wreath is to get the florals that I've already wrapped attached to the wreath, and then I can decide if it needs anything more. Design planning, me? Nah. :)

Day 12

I went out for a bit yesterday, and it wore me out more than I thought it would. I got a whole hat knitted while I was out, and started another during our family night, finishing 8 rows.

20241013
[ID: A purple knitting loom with 8 rows of pink knitting on it; in the center of the loom is a pink knitted baby hat. End ID]

Day 13

Still tired from yesterday, and I had a bunch of things that needed doing around the house, so I punted my plan for prepping florals and knitted another baby hat instead.

I'm trying to finish up unfinished projects around here (hee!) and one that has been sitting around for a while is a Klämmemacka box from IKEA. I found some brown paint and craft varnish in the stash and have been painting it and varnishing it. It's a long process waiting for coats to dry. I also lost one of the dividers over the years.

If you attempt this project, or plan on buying one, my tip is to give it a light sanding first. I wish I had done this before painting. The little bits of wood get caught in the paint.

I haven't done a good job tracking my days, but I definitely have been working on this a lot lately. It takes so much work to get to simple and I did, although the final pattern is not shown. I'm making tiny square patterns in a 15x15 space on a 4x4" pin loom square. Sometimes it works on paper but doesn't work in real life :-D

It's not been my best week ever, but I got little bits done.

Day 10

6 more rows on a new pink baby hat (I generally knit through a whole cake of yarn at a time, and this pink one is HUGE, which is why you're seeing so much pink)

20241010
[ID: A purple knitting loom with 11 rows of knitted pink yarn. End ID]

Day 11

During our family screen break time, I knitted 14 rows on the baby hat, and finished it off.

Day 12

I had a stitch-in today only instead of stitching, I wound more yarn for washing. (The center skein is an absolutely gorgeous purple that my phone camera refuses to render correctly.)

[ID: 5 skeins of yarn in various weights and colors, tied for washing. End ID]

During this day's screen break, once I got done with some chores, I wound 6 stems of faux flowers with floral tape to prep them for my wreath.

Day 8 was a busy and tiring day, and all I managed was 5 rows on a new baby hat.

20241008
[ID: A purple round knitting loom knitted with 5 rows of pink yarn. End ID]

Day 9 was also a grumpy and listless day; I did attend my online stitch-in outside, where I got some fresh, somewhat brisk air, and wound and tied 6 skeins of yarn for washing.

I spent these two days trying to adapt this pattern for a knitting loom to my knitting machine:

https://blog.knittingboard.com/archives/12635

I ended up with a very long piece of material that isn't big enough for an adult head :-D Adapting patterns can be tricky, but I'll frog and go back to the knitting loom :-)

It turns out the rural area my husband's family is from was once known for their textile production. Whaaaaat? The Mississippi Valley had all the right components for success--a ready labour force, water to run the mills, men with big pockets to build the mills, and, most importantly, lots of sheep!

We missed the feature exhibit, but was still entranced by the permanent exhibit which had one of each major machine used from shearing to shipping.

We arrived back at the hotel before the local yarn shop closed, so hehehe I went in again and bought more yarn :-D

Hubs and I spent some time in rural Ontario where his family hails from. Rural Ontario is so cute and rustic, and how convenient it was that there was a local yarn shop right across from our hotel!

There were many beautiful yarns, but I settled on this fine yarn that was also on sale, hehe! I also picked up something called a doodle deck which has different themes with mini patterns on them.

I finished up this punch needle kit I found on sale at a drug store, of all places! The kit is by Kikkerland, purveyor of quirky goods and crafts. It was just the perfect take a long for my recent trip too, as all the supplies were included. I made some mistakes, had trouble telling the front from the back, but overall I would try it again! It was a few hours worth of fun considering I paid $9.99 for the kit.

It led me on a rabbit hole of punch needle supplies and how-to videos, but I resisted buying new supplies since I already had two punch needles at home :-D
