NaCraMaMo Day 1: Jewelry
Oct. 1st, 2025 02:37 pmFor post 1 today, two necklaces with the same pendants. These were actually connector pieces but I preferred them as pendants. I decided to spotlight these because my goal was different themes and color schemes for them.
Both are short necklaces as the pendants seemed too small and light to anchor a long necklace. I went with a beach theme up top. The stone balls had always made me think of giraffes but I realized they also looked like the patterns on tortoise shells. Their yellow and white color made me use that as the scheme, with the yellow cat's eye cubes, and seed beads, and I used goldenrod seed beads to deepen the tone so that it seemed more like a sunny day than lemonade. I used some leftover beads as dangles from the turtles to tie the silver in more closely, colorwise. A coiled rope toggle was a nautical reference.

For the second one I started with some big silver beads that again made me think of shell patterns. The turtles themselves though all feature a coiled pattern, so I used some copper beads with one, and then used the smaller beads to tie together the two colors with a mix of brown, yellow and silver. I again used some leftover beads in those color areas for the dangle, and a toggle with a bumpy texture that made me think of barnacles.

Date: 2025-10-01 10:36 pm (UTC)They are technically all for sale, though I have given many of them as gifts in the past. For some time I thought I'd do more with them once I retired, but I've found that I really don't want to develop a business. And given how common jewelry sales are, I don't think it would do all that well, especially enough so to make the time and expense worthwhile.
However I have just started offering them as part of fundraising for Pillowfort. This will be limited to U.S. mailing unless the donor wants to pay for international shipping.
